Space Oddity
digital video
2018 - 2022
In the late nineties a young Tom Buckland became transfixed with science fiction films, novels and video games. Many long hours were spent absorbed in these fantasy worlds crafting cardboard costumes and spaceships from toilets rolls, cereal boxes and whatever was at hand. This was the beginning of a lifetime fascination with space and making.
2001: A Space Odyssey was one such film that left a deep mark on an impressionable young Buckland. In nostalgic reflection to the multitudes of homemade cardboard creations of his youth, a now slightly taller Buckland has lovingly recreated Kubrick’s trippy science fiction masterpiece within the confines of a suburban garage.
