In October 2017 I visited Fremantle WA on a two week residency with just some ideas and nothing much else in my backpack. Scraps of cardboard found their way to me, some donated and other bits found on long walks. With ideas of place, transition and home on my mind, I constructed my own mobile base using this collected refuse – bubble wrap, moving boxes, packing tape and found objects. I became a human hermit crab, a home away from home carried on my back.
