‘Bird Machine’ questions the future of animal life on a rapidly changing planet. Like a kind of ethereal aviary, a flock of mechanical birds come to life through synchronized movements, fluttering their wings in an attuned cacophony. They are constructed from found objects; discarded street signs, cardboard, plastic and given life via broken household electronics recovered from roadsides and skip bins. Bird Machine is an exhortation of an expeditiously changing planet where the machines of human industry are rapidly eroding the natural world in the name of growth and progress. The works speaks of a deep transitional grief and a growing awareness that things are changing and mourning for the loss of human, animal, and plant life.
